We all know the usual ingredients that everyone loves to put on top of their pizza. The first thing that comes to mind would be pepperoni, then different kinds of sausages, mushrooms, and then more cheese. Yes, there are some who are averse to the idea of heaping in more cheese, but in reality, it’s the most popular topping there is. All pizza has cheese, but most want more of the stuff. Even down at Calda Pizza, it’s their most popular topping. However, there are some out there with an adventurous tongue who want to try things nobody has ever tried before. You would be surprised at what people can think of to put on their food.

Now what we’ve compiled here is a list of uncommon ingredients that actually taste good. We all know pizza is pizza, and it is one of the most delicious dishes we could possible eat, but there are things that simply do not belong on pizza. But still, since pizza is still good even when it’s bad, we leave it to you to decide whether you’d like to try it or not. So read on to find some weird ingredients that surprisingly go well with your pizza.

  1. Peas

This isn’t the first vegetable that has been put on top of pizza. In fact, vegan pizza has been growing in popularity lately, so this might not be that much of a surprise. But there is just some part of you inside that asks, “Peas? Really?” Yes, really. In fact, in Brazil it is actually one of the more popular toppings. So if you ever go participating in a Brazilian Carnival, you can certainly put this on your list of things you want to try there.

  1. Seaweed and Eel

Now this is one combination you might have heard of. There was a video featuring this combination that went viral a couple of months ago. However, if you were living under a rock at the time, this combination is actually from Japan. It is actually pretty popular, and no, we are not joking. Be prepared though, this is still pretty far from the strangest topping you’ll see on this list.

  1. Smoked Reindeer

Compared to the other items on this list, you might say that this is pretty tame, and you are right. But there is a funny story that comes with this cool combination. Over a decade ago, the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi publicly mocked the food he was served during his time in Finland. Three years later, Kotipizza, a Finnish pizza house, won the American’s Plate with this combination wherein Italy placed second. They named this pizza the Berlusconi.

  1. Cold Four-Fish

Everyone has heard of four-cheese pizza, but we bet this is the first time you’ve seen four-fish. This Russian delight called the “mockba” is actually one of the most popular kinds in the former soviet country. They contain salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel, and onions. Just imagining it already turns many people off, but add the fact that it is traditionally served cold, and a lot won’t want to go near this pizza.

  1. Lobster, Black Alaskan Cod, Russian Osetra Caviar

We don’t even know where to begin with this one. This particular variant of our favorite dish is served at Stevenson Pizza in Vancouver. They are actually renowned for their quirky topping combinations, but this one definitely takes the cake. Despite that though, it is actually pretty expensive at 450 Canadian dollars, which is understandable when you consider the ingredients.

  1. Macaroni Cheese

One can just imagine how people thought up of this particular pie. Mac and Cheese is definitely a favorite of kids worldwide, and who doesn’t like pizza? So why not put them together? People say a slice of this might feel and taste a bit different than what you would expect, but after a few bites the taste that we all know and love does shine through.

  1. Emu and Kangaroo

In Sydney you can find one of their most popular hotels, the Australian Hotel. Of course, being a tourist, you would want to at least try out their local delicacies. But I doubt you would expect them to serve you their coat of arms. This hotel is famous for their half-emu, half-kangaroo pizza which is then topped with capsicum, cranberries, and bush tomatoes.
