Pizza as the Ideal Student Lunch
Regardless of where you grew up, you most likely know what pizza is. And you probably love pizza, just like everyone else. This universal favorite has been adopted by various countries all over the world, and pizzerias are believed to make up almost 20% of the world’s restaurants. Although most people see pizza as an Italian dish, some food experts claim it traces its origins back to ancient Greece, where flat bread was garnished with local herbs and spices before being baked on hot stones. Wherever it originated, though, one thing is for sure: Everybody loves pizza!
Filipinos are no exception when it comes to a love for pizza. If you’ve ever tried traveling within the country, you’ll notice there’s a pizzeria practically in every city, big or small. There are even restaurants that aren’t really pizza places, but also serve this favorite treat. In Cagayan de Oro, one of the most well-known and beloved pizza places is Calda Pizza, and for good reason. Not only do they serve delicious pizza, they also offer them in five different sizes, from the standard 9 inches to the humungous 36-inch Xtra Super pizza (aptly named, don’t you think?).
Calda Pizza CDO Branches
Calda Pizza is certainly doing things right in the City of Golden Friendship. Knowing how much students love to eat, and knowing how convenient pizza is for those who are looking for a quick bite to eat between classes, they have established their branches near some of the city’s schools and universities. If you are currently enrolled at Xavier University, you’ll sure be glad to know there’s a Calda Pizza branch right across your university’s front gates. All you need to do is cross the street to enjoy awesome pizza goodness. Students from Lourdes College also get to enjoy everything Calda has to offer, as this branch is just a few blocks away from their campus.
What if you are a high school student of Xavier University? Considering the distance from the university’s main campus to the high school building, you may think there isn’t a Calda Pizza branch you can conveniently visit for lunch. You’d be wrong. The Pueblo branch is within walking distance not only from Xavier University high school, but also from Corpus Christi School. Even if you’re not in the mood for pizza (like that ever happens, haha), Calda can still be your go-to place for lunch because they don’t just serve pizza goodness, they have some delicious non-pizza offerings as well.
Another group of students who are fortunate enough to have a Calda branch near their campus are those from the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST). The Calda-Lapasan branch may be too far to walk to from the MUST campus, but it is less than five minutes away by jeepney. It can be the perfect place for you to enjoy a hearty lunch with friends. Talk about your projects and assignments or even your favorite movies and TV shows over a delicious serving of your favorite pizza flavor or any of their non-pizza offerings. Oh, and don’t forget the selfies and the groufies!
Pizza for Lunch? Why Not?
You may be a bit surprised that I kept mentioning going to Calda and ordering your favorite pizza for lunch. Filipinos are known to be rice lovers, so what am I doing suggesting pizza for lunch? Pizza may be a favorite of Kagay-anons as a snack treat, but is it really just as good as food for lunch? Why, of course, it is! Haven’t you ever seen a movie or read a book where the characters ordered pizza for lunch? Maybe some of you have even seen a social media post where a friend or relative who is now living abroad is having pizza for lunch. If they’ve tried it and enjoyed it, why shouldn’t you?
Pizza is very filling. The dough/crust is basically flat bread, which means it is a good source of carbohydrates. The filling contains dairy (cheese), meat, and even fruits and veggies (pineapple, green bell pepper, tomatoes, mushrooms, olives, etc.). So, you see, pizza is actually the perfect go-grow-glow, all-in-one food for you! You definitely have a good reason to love this treat and to want to have it for lunch. What makes it even better is that it is a food meant for sharing, so you get to enjoy the company of friends while enjoying good food at the same time! The next time you need a place to eat, you know where to go.
